Kevin Thelwell ‘gaslighting’ Rangers fans amid new behind-the-scenes Ibrox developments
Kevin Thelwell’s spell as sporting director at Rangers has got off to an appalling start.
Thelwell came under fire for signing Youssef Chermiti for £10million, while he has always been criticised for the arrival of Emmanuel Fernandez at Ibrox.
Fans have already turned their anger on Thelwell, who has continued to support under-fire manager Russell Martin.
However, following recent developments at Rangers, Thelwell has become public enemy number one himself following a new announcement.
Keith Jackson ‘gobsmacked’ at Robbie Thelwell hire at Rangers
Kevin Thelwell has decided to appoint his son, Robbie, as the head of recruitment in Govan.
Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 1 October, journalist Keith Jackson was furious with the appointment of Robbie Thelwell.
He said: “I am absolutely gobsmacked by this, and I am struggling to see the logic in it. At this moment in time, it feels like blatant gaslighting of the Rangers supporters.
“I’ve been saying for some time that Kevin Thelwell isn’t part of the solution, but he’s part of the problem.
“I have no idea Kevin Thelwell is making an appointment like this, and putting himself front and centre in the blast zone, because the Rangers fans are going to react horribly to this.”
The optics of this move clearly don’t look right, and Kevin Thelwell is handing Rangers fans more ammunition, which could be used on him later in the season.
Robbie Thelwell will leave his head of technical scouting and loan management role, as he is set to work under his father yet again.

The Bears have also brought in Nathan Fisher, who previously worked with Kevin Thelwell at Everton.
The announcement was made on 1 October, one day before Rangers’ Europa League clash versus Sturm Graz, with the Bears in desperate need of a win in Europe.

The atmosphere at Ibrox has been volatile this season, and this decision will do nothing to quell the discontent.

Light Blues supporters will be resonating with every bit of Jackson’s scathing words when discussing Robbie Thelwell’s appointment.
Supporters have watched their side begin their worst start to a domestic season since 1978, whilst crashing out of the Champions League in the most embarrassing way to Club Brugge.
Not only are fans firmly against Martin, but Patrick Stewart and Andrew Cavenagh have also received heaps of abuse from disgruntled and disappointed fans.
With trust in the board diminishing by the day, Kevin Thelwell’s decision to bring his son on board a sinking ship has done his reputation no favours.
