Davide Ancelotti to Rangers door opens after new admission, Russell Martin to stress

Russell Martin should be looking over his shoulder just a few months after pipping Davide Ancelotti to the top job at Rangers.

The Scottish manager’s tenure at the Gers has been woeful so far, as they find themselves eighth in the William Hill Premiership.

Many among the Ibrox faithful want to see Martin sacked after leading them to one of the worst starts to a league campaign, and the Light Blues could potentially have a candidate ready to take his place.

Ancelotti’s days at Botafogo could potentially be numbered after his struggles in Brazil, and the former Real Madrid assistant head coach may have opened the doors for the Glaswegian outfit to come and get him.

Rangers to take chance on Davide Ancelotti after Russell Martin failure

Ancelotti doesn’t seem too certain about his long-term future at Botafogo.

The Brasileirao outfit haven’t had the best of spells under the Italian manager, winning just 10 of their 21 matches under him.

Having won the league title last season, the Brazilian club find themselves significantly behind the likes of Flamengo and Palmeiras this time around.

Speaking to the media, as relayed by the Daily Record on 2 October, Ancelotti seemingly dodged a question about his continuity at Botafogo, saying: “A coach’s job requires a lot of emotional balance and focus on the job. This is a good school. It’s a championship that requires balance. I remain calm, focused on my work, and confident in my team.”

Russell Martin replacement: Who can be next manager at Ibrox?

Martin’s sacking at Ibrox feels inevitable as fans have lost faith in the Scottish manager and are demanding a change in the dugout.

The former Southampton boss’ situation at the Gers feels untenable, considering the mountain of abuse he’s been subjected to from fans.

With the 39-year-old head coach possibly on the brink of being replaced at the Glaswegian outfit, Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have a massive decision to make on a possible replacement.

Steven Gerrard appears to be the obvious candidate at Rangers, having previously tasted success at Ibrox.

Martin’s record at the Gers

While Ancelotti was heavily linked with the Light Blues in the summer, looking at his record at Botafogo won’t be encouraging to supporters in G51.

The likes of Sean Dyche and Jose Mourinho have been mentioned at Ibrox as possible arrivals, although the Portuguese manager recently joined Benfica.

Supporters have had enough of Martin, but it remains to be seen who will take the reins at the Glaswegian outfit after him.
