Russell Martin sack latest at Rangers as fear emerges for October break exit
Russell Martin cannot escape talk of the sack at Rangers right now.
Rangers are in freefall despite their 2-1 win at Livingston, with fan protests quickly becoming a regular occurrence at Ibrox against the manager and Patrick Stewart.
Andrew Cavenagh has backed Martin so far after crunch talks, but the reality is Rangers are currently eighth in the Scottish Premiership with only one league win.
With the October international break quickly approaching, Martin could be slowly on his way out.

The former Southampton man can kid himself, but the reality is that he needs to win nearly every remaining game this season to turn things around at Ibrox.
John McGarry has shared the latest state of play in Govan, admitting that any manager struggling will fear an international break as a window of change.
Writing in the print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail (pg 70, 1 October), McGarry shared the latest state of play with Martin in charge at Ibrox.
“Any struggling manager always has reason to fear an international break,” he wrote.
“Martin will assuredly be in charge for tomorrow’s game away to Sturm Graz and Sunday’s trip to Falkirk, which comes immediately before it.

“A point in Austria would be an acceptable outcome and would rekindle interest in the Europa League campaign.”
Rangers form and performances simply not good enough
Rangers have only won two competitive games since August 17, and that is nowhere near good enough for a club that demands victories every week.
Draws will not cut it against the likes of St Mirren, Dundee and Motherwell, regardless of how things are going on and off the pitch.
Livingston | 1-2 | Rangers |
Rangers | 0-1 | Genk |
Rangers | 2-0 | Hibernian |
Rangers | 0-2 | Hearts |
Rangers | 0-0 | Celtic |
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of Cavenagh’s support is that Rangers spent easily over £20million this summer, their biggest spend in years.
Martin and Kevin Thelwell have not spent wisely either, with the likes of Joe Rothwell and Youssef Chermiti still having loads to prove.
Wins against Sturm Graz and Falkirk may paper over the cracks with some positivity, but Martin will know that his job will still be on the line moving into the dreaded October break.
Fans would love to see the back of him, but all he can do for now is win games – it’s that simple.
