Rangers training ground: Where it is and why it’s called Auchenhowie
Rangers play their football at Ibrox Stadium, and their training base is not too far away.
The Gers train at the Rangers Training Centre, with Russell Martin’s first-team squad there on most days as they prepare for matches.
The training ground was opened in 2001 and has gone by several different names, and was briefly owned by Hummel Sportswear.
Dick Advocaat previously proposed the idea of a Rangers complex, and now the Rangers Women and youth sides also play at the training centre.

Where Rangers Training Centre is located
The Rangers Training Centre is just over seven miles from Ibrox Stadium, with it located in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire.
- It was opened in 2001.
- Several different teams within Rangers train and even play at the training ground.
- It cost £14 million to build.
- It is spread over 34 acres of land.
It would take around 17 minutes to drive between the training ground and Ibrox, and this short distance remains ideal for players and coaches.

The Rangers Training Centre also has a £50,000 room dedicated to editing and showing match clips to players as part of their development.
There is a 226-capacity spectator stand at the training ground, which was opened in 2019 after much discussion with fan groups.
Why Rangers Training Centre is called Auchenhowie
The Rangers Training Centre has had several nicknames since its opening in 2001, and is now commonly referred to as Auchenhowie.
Auchenhowie refers to the area of Milngavie in which the training ground is located, and there was a reason why fans started using this reference.
It was actually named Murray Park when the training ground first opened, with former Chairman David Murray playing a huge part in its development and opening.
After Rangers were sold in 2011, fans were furious at Murray and began calling the training ground Auchenhowie instead.
Hummel bought the naming rights in 2018, but departed as Rangers’ main kit manufacturer in 2021, and it has been known as the Rangers Training Centre since.
Iconic quotes displayed at Rangers Training Centre
Inside the training centre are posters and displays featuring inspirational quotes from several Rangers legends, which are seen every day by the current staff and players.
An iconic quote from Walter Smith hangs on the door of the kitroom: “Rangers Football Club – Do not enter unless you are ready to put yourself second – and that should be the one and only time second is good enough for you.”
“No one man is bigger than Rangers Football Club,” from Bill Struth, is on another door.
Legendary kitman Jimmy Bell also has an iconic quote displayed, with an expletive line attached to his image within one of the changing rooms.
