Andrew Cavenagh ‘to relieve Russell Martin of his duties’ after talks with Rangers insiders

Rangers have suffered a miserable start to the season under Russell Martin.

Martin remains under intense pressure at Ibrox, as the Bears got off to the worst start in a league season in 47 years.

Rangers’ 2-1 win over Livingston does little to quell the fury of Gers fans who have had enough of Martin.

Russell Martin’s relationship with Rangers fans is beyond repair

Rangers fans are furious with Russell Martin, staging protests for their last two home matches against Hibernian and Genk.

Over 12,000 seats were left empty at Ibrox during Rangers’ 1-0 loss to Genk in their Europa League opener.

Ibrox is often volatile on European nights, but against Genk, the atmosphere was quiet and despondent as Rangers sunk to another defeat.

A winning percentage this low is not good at most clubs, let alone Rangers.

Rangers have two crucial away matches coming up before the international break, as they take on Sturm Graz in the Europa League and Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.

Anything other than two wins will leave the fans pleading with Cavenagh to swallow his pride and sack Martin.

Player-turned-pundit Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News his thoughts on Martin’s future at the club, stating there is now only one logical option having not seen Ibrox as despondent as it was last week.

He said: “Cavenagh and ]Paraag] Marathe have to come out now because it’s dire straights. They need to show bottle and address the fans. I’ve never seen the fans so despondent.

“But you know what, I can see the next home game being in front of a half-empty stadium. The conditions were beautiful against Genk, heading into a holiday weekend, and Ibrox was flat.

“The owners will take account this into account, speak to those in the know, and make the only decision – to relieve Russell Martin of his duties.”

Andrew Cavenagh must take action and sack Russell Martin

Cavenagh became the Rangers chairman in June, and current proceedings at Rangers would have been far from what he imagined.

His persistence to stick with a manager who has virtually no way back of building a relationship with Rangers fans is baffling on current evidence.

Fans are starting to turn their anger towards him after each poor performance, and he’ll soon be forced into sacking Martin.

Martin must go on a long run of wins now, and Cavenagh’s credibility will continue to plummet if matters don’t improve in Govan.

If Rangers fail to win any of their next two matches, then Cavenagh’s decision will be an even easier one.
