‘This is what will be happening within Tynecastle as Hearts leave Rangers behind’

The noise around Rangers quietened down just a decibel as Russell Martin picked up his first Scottish Premiership win on Sunday.

Rangers beat Livingston 2-1 in less than convincing fashion in West Lothian, as until the 94th minute, the game looked to be jotted down as another draw for Martin.

Max Aarons was still left disappointed despite his stoppage-time winner to secure all three points.

Since Martin took over at Ibrox, he has had a torrid time of it, with Celtic appearing to have already left his team behind, just six games into the season.

However, it isn’t Rangers‘ bitter rivals who sit at the top of the tree; Hearts have taken that privilege after an unbeaten start.

Hearts tipped to taste success before Rangers

In complete contrast to the Light Blues, Hearts have started the season on fire, with five wins and a draw from six games, placing them top of the table, but more concerningly, nine points ahead of the Gers.

Former Hearts player Christophe Berra is backing his old club to end the Old Firms’ custody of the Scottish Premiership and split their dominance, while Rangers’ struggles continue.

Speaking on The Warm-Up, Berra said: “Looking on paper, of course, Rangers are very fragile – to put it politely. Rangers have a young, inexperienced squad under a lot of pressure. You can’t see at the moment how they’re going to recover.

“Within Tynecastle, though, they’ll be just getting on with their business. It’s uncomfortable because you don’t want to sound too cocky or too confident. We’re only at the end of September. There’s a long, long way to go.”

Hearts last won the league in 1960, a long way before Rangers’ last triumph in 2021, but Berra’s prediction is not out of the realms of possibility, highlighting how far the Glasgow club has fallen.

Derek McInnes’ side have scored 15 goals already in the domestic league, while Martin’s side have only managed five under new management.

Rangers have to buck their ideas up and fast, if they are to remain as one of the top two sides in the country.

The trajectory of the two clubs is clear to see

Hearts look to be on the up for the foreseeable, whereas Rangers can only be seen as trending downwards.

Well-known for his success at Brighton, Tony Bloom has invested considerably in Hearts, helping the club navigate the market.

Rangers’ window has proved to be lacklustre, and any chance of the summer signings becoming crucial figures at the club looks slimmer each week.

When the turnaround at Ibrox comes, and who leads the charge is difficult to see, while Hearts are full of optimism for the remainder of the season, Rangers just want it to end.
