Russell Martin told he’s ‘way off it’ with Rangers comments, simply doesn’t get Ibrox crowd

Rangers fans strongly dislike Russell Martin and it is easy to see why.

Martin has won just one of his six league matches in charge, and Rangers fans have booed him at every opportunity.

The manager arrived at Ibrox to much negativity, and he has failed to make a single positive impression, with Rangers’ performances dire, his tactics questionable and his attitude frosty.

Rangers is one of the highest-pressure jobs in football, but Martin has completely failed to adapt, and he has now been slammed by one former player.

Russell Martin slammed by Derek Ferguson

A big reason why Rangers fans have not taken to Martin is his lack of accountability, and he has blamed everyone but himself for the dire form across the Scottish Premiership and Europe.

In recent weeks, Martin wound fans up by stating that Rangers had problems before he arrived at Ibrox in the summer.

Coming to a club like this, I knew the intensity of it. If you want to enjoy it when it is going well, you know you will have to deal with tough moments,” Martin stated before Rangers’ clash with Hibernian.

Very rarely do you arrive at a club when there is not a problem.

“At every club we have been at, there are tough moments, but the potential is huge for the group if we work through the difficult moments together.”

This attitude has now been slammed by former Rangers star Derek Ferguson, who has exclusively told Ibrox News that Martin is out of his depth.

“He was here as a short spell as a player, but he’s clearly not gauged it right. He wanted to play a style of football, and do this and that, but being Rangers boss is all about winning first and foremost,” Ferguson stated.

He’s totally underestimated what he’s come into and he’s way off it with his comments. As basic as it sounds, he’s just not up to the task – he’s not got the tools. He and his staff are not good enough – it’s as simple as that.”

Martin clearly out of his depth at Rangers

When you become Rangers manager, one of the toughest tasks is buying into every aspect at the club, and getting the fans onside from the first minute.

Even small details such as Martin’s matchday attire has seen him break Rangers’ traditions, and it shows that he underestimated the pressure he would be under at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard and Giovani van Bronckhorst both got the fans onside from the moment they arrived, while Martin gave himself an uphill battle.

Rangers cannot defend under Martin and they have struggled going forward, and these are self-inflicted problems from a manager who may not be in the dugout for too much longer.
