Russell Martin ‘bruised’ after Rangers sack developments – ‘Doesn’t want to be there’
Russell Martin’s future at Rangers continues to look bleak.
Martin faces mounting pressure to deliver results at Ibrox, with Rangers’ 2-1 win over Livingston on Sunday their only victory from six Scottish Premiership matches.
The Bears face a crucial week ahead, with away trips to Sturm Graz in the Europa League and then Falkirk in must-win matches if Martin is to build any sort of relationship with the fans.
Martin has faced criticism in press conferences, with supporters deeming him to be arrogant in some of his responses.

Russell Martin must be hurt by scrutiny he receives in press conferences
Martin is looking for back-to-back wins for the first time as Rangers manager ahead of the Europa League clash against reigning Austrian champions Sturm Graz.
Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 29 September, journalist Keith Jackson believes that Martin appears disinterested when speaking to the media.
He said: “I’m sure that he feels a little bit bruised by the stick that he’s been getting, whether that’s from the stands, the newspapers, or shows like this.
“But he’s got a really unfortunate way of showing this; in these press conferences, he looks like, ‘I have to go through this, I don’t want to be in here, I don’t respect any of your opinions.’
“Rightly or wrongly, that’s the vibe I get out of him, he’s a man that doesn’t want to be there.”
Martin’s appointment was heavily disapproved by many Rangers fans who believed he didn’t have the credentials to lead the Bears forward.

- Southampton (2023-2024)
- Rangers (2025-)
Rangers fans have called for him to be sacked in every game since the 9-1 aggregate loss to Club Brugge in the Champions League playoffs.
His possession-based style of play has looked uninspiring and ineffective for large parts of the season, and has left Rangers defensively exposed on numerous occasions.
Martin has a tough task ahead of him if he is to reunite the supporters and the players, and he needs the full backing of Andrew Cavenagh, with talks taking place recently.

Andrew Cavenagh must sack Russell Martin if Rangers fail to win their next two matches
Martin can probably count himself lucky that the Rangers board hasn’t already relieved him of his duties.
He continues to have the full support of Cavenagh, yet that could all change in the next week.
Two crucial away games could decide his fate at Ibrox, and Cavenagh is already under huge pressure to appease the fans’ wishes.
Martin is on thin ice in Govan, and this week will determine whether he can make it back to shore safely.
