‘I cannot believe what Rangers fans did after late goal vs Livingston – It was surreal’

Rangers recorded only their second win in eight games on Sunday, scoring deep into stoppage time to beat Livingston 2-1.

Russell Martin has been under intense pressure as Rangers boss, as the win has most likely bought him some more time.

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has travelled back to America, with Martin expected to still be in charge for Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Sturm Graz.

Ibrox has seen limited success so far this season, and fingers have been pointed at the Rangers hierarchy.

Despite a dramatic late win on 28 September, it’s unlikely Martin will win over the Rangers fans anytime soon – especially after their reaction to the late goal.

Billy Dodds says Russell Martin chants were ‘surreal’ after late winner

Max Aarons came off the bench to score his first goal for Rangers, which ultimately helped his side to all three points.

The win has put Martin’s side eighth in the Scottish Premiership, as protests against him have continued.

Former Rangers player and coach, Billy Dodds, has described what the scenes were like at the end of the win on Sunday evening.

“First half Rangers were really good, but obviously got themselves into a bit of trouble by not scoring the second goal, and then suddenly Livingston score,” Dodds explained on BBC Sportscene.

“Rangers get the winner right at the death, and then there are surreal moments when the chants [against Martin] start coming, straight away, after Rangers scored the winner.

“Very surprised at that after Rangers scored the winner.”

The win looks like it will keep Martin in the job for at least another week, as there’s only one thing the Rangers boss should now be focusing on.

Russell Martin has to keep winning

There’s no relationship between Martin and the Rangers fans, as the head coach walked straight off the pitch at full-time.

Martin has stayed adamant that he will keep fighting until the very end and accepts that he was never wanted as the head coach in the first place.

Martin now needs to keep winning, as it’s the only option he has left in turning the ship around.

Another loss in the Europa League on Thursday night would only add to the hostility around Ibrox, and possibly even seal his exit.
