Derek Ferguson explains what Russell Martin must do to keep Rangers job after sack latest
Max Aarons’ goal off the bench helped Rangers and Russell Martin to a much-needed 2-1 victory at Livingston on Sunday evening.
Martin has been under immense pressure at Rangers after a disastrous start to the season.
Despite the three points, Rangers were poor for large periods, as individual performances across the board have been consistently below par this season.
The win against Livingston barely lifts the pressure off Martin, as it’s clear that the Rangers fans want the former Premier League coach gone as soon as possible.
Unfortunately for them, Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh is far from Ibrox as Martin looks set to remain as head coach for a little while longer after recent talks.
Former Rangers star Derek Ferguson has lifted the lid on what Martin must do to keep his job long-term.

Derek Ferguson urges Russell Martin to ‘keep winning’ if he is to keep Rangers job
Martin was booed off the pitch by Rangers fans after his side beat Livingston, as the relationship between coach and fans seems unfixable.
However, speaking on Open Goal, Ferguson has a good idea of what Martin can do to fix things.
“To turn it around, you need to win a cup. Honestly, though, just keep winning,” he said.
“That was a mistake I thought he made at the start of the season. He came in and wanted to play this style.
“Once you start winning, then tweak things and play your style, but just win, because that’s all the fans want.”

Rangers were demoted to the Europa League after failing to progress through the Champions League qualification stages earlier this season.
Martin has already started the Europa League campaign with a loss, but Strum Graz on Thursday is now a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Russell Martin needs to build on Rangers’ win against Livingston
In what could be Martin’s final weeks as Rangers boss coming up, he needs to harness any momentum he can to be in with a shot of keeping his job.
The win against Livingston now means he has the opportunity to build on something.
Rangers’ next three fixtures:
- Strum Graz (A) – Europa League
- Falkirk (A) – Scottish Premiership
- Dundee United (H) – Scottish Premiership
Martin’s next two games are also away from home, which could be a good thing for both him and the team, as tensions are at an all-time high at Ibrox.
The next two both come before the international break, and two positive results before Rangers’ return to Ibrox would only be a good thing.
