Russell Martin a ‘laughing stock’ with simple Rangers question he refuses to answer
Russell Martin continues to be backed by Rangers despite constant clamouring for his dismissal.
Genk defeated Rangers 1-0 in the Europa League; the poor performance increased the volume of the noise that surrounds the Gers’ dugout.
Boos rang around Ibrox at full-time as Rangers fans have turned on their manager, the question moving towards a matter of when, not if.
Outside the stadium, the finger is also firmly being pointed at Martin.

Hugh Keevins accuses Martin of dodging important Rangers question
There really does appear to be no signs of Rangers turning around their historically bad start to the season without a change in direction being made.
Rangers’ start to the campaign
- Rangers’ worst start to a season in 47 years.
- Winless in the domestic league.
- Have failed to score in four of their last five games.
The Daily Record‘s Hugh Keevin was firm in his views on the current Rangers boss.
Keevin said this after the most recent defeat: “In the wake of the latest, demonstrably awful, performance against Genk in the Europa League on Thursday night, it is also allowable to point out that the head coach deserves all he gets at times.
“Martin makes a laughing stock of himself when he implies he is above being judged by a jury of his peers. Or, as he would know them, lesser mortals.
“He has yet to answer the question that left him stumped after another press briefing that followed a negative result. The one where he was asked to name one thing relative to his team which has improved since he took control of Rangers.”
The Ibrox faithful do appear to share Keevin’s opinion, as Rangers fans already have a replacement for Martin in mind.

Rangers’ enormous drop off
The question of what has improved since the new head coach took charge gives very slim pickings for possible answers.
However, the reply to the inverse of that question could span across a novella.
According to SofaScore, across the course of last season under Philippe Clement and then Barry Ferguson, the side averaged 2.1 goals per game.
In a much smaller sample size, Martin’s Rangers have averaged 0.6 and only Aberdeen have scored less in total.
Dundee are level with Rangers as the two sides that have created the least amount of big chances this season, both are on seven.
It all makes grim reading for anyone who continues to back Martin, as there are no signs that it is going to get any better.
Rangers play Livingston in their next game on Sunday, where the term ‘must win’ cannot be understated.
Signs of improvement and certainly a victory are absolutely non-negotiable now if the search for a new gaffer isn’t to be given the green light.
