Jamie O’Hara instantly shoots down what he’s told about Rangers and Celtic live on talkSPORT

Rangers are in crisis after a winless start under Russell Martin, but things are not perfect at Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Both fanbases have launched protests against their club hierarchies, with both Old Firm clubs crashing out of the Champions League amid questionable summer transfer windows.

Rangers are in particular trouble as they could be bottom of the Scottish Premiership before they play their next game.

This comes after a summer of heavy investment, which means that the Rangers squad has quality, but Martin is failing to get a tune out of them, and the two sides have now been compared.

Rangers not far off Celtic despite Russell Martin failures

Despite their differences in the league table, Rangers may not actually be that far behind Celtic, with a 0-0 draw in the Old Firm a low point for both sides.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara slammed Martin, and claimed that Rangers should be a lot closer to their rivals.

This comes after Jason Cundy claimed that it will take years for Rangers to catch up to Celtic, with Martin not entirely at fault, and the talkSPORT pundit hit back at the former Chelsea star.

“They’re years away. They’ve fallen behind. For Rangers now to catch up – yes, they’re a huge football club, but to catch up to Celtic – they are streets ahead,” Cundy stated of Rangers on talkSPORT on Thursday.

“I don’t think Rangers are a million miles away from Celtic, but Celtic do it consistently, and they’ve got a philosophy and style.

“When I watch Rangers play under Russell Martin… I don’t watch. It is a Russell Martin problem.”

However, O’Hara quickly hit back at that assessment and insisted the gap is nowhere near as big as Cundy makes out.

Rangers miss huge opportunity to overtake Celtic

Celtic had a disastrous summer transfer window as star players such as Nicolas Kuhn left, with limited quality replacements.

Dermot Desmond has been targeted by Celtic fans as they are unhappy with the failings of their club, and with the Hoops in crisis, Rangers can be even more aggrieved at their poor form this season.

Had a better manager than Martin been hired, and had Kevin Thelwell spent the money smarter in the summer, on proven players ready to make an impact, Rangers could have taken advantage of the mess at Celtic to beat them to the title for the first time since 2021.
