Sky Sports reporter shares ‘unthinkable’ Rangers development in Russell Martin sack latest

Rangers fans want Russell Martin sacked as their struggles continue, but this is unlikely to happen in the coming days.

Martin has failed to win in the Scottish Premiership and also led his side to defeat in Rangers’ Europa League clash with Genk.

Rangers supporters have booed Martin and chanted for the manager to be dismissed, with performances and results all well below par.

The Gers will face Livingston in their next game, but Rangers fans are unlikely to get their wish before Sunday’s clash, despite a disastrous update on Martin’s future.

Rangers could be bottom of the league before next game

Rangers spent heavily in the summer as Kevin Thelwell recruited 13 new players for Martin, outspending everyone else in the league by some distance.

The results have been disastrous, as Rangers could end up bottom of the league before they face Livingston on Sunday.

They are currently 11th, above Aberdeen, who are also having a woeful season, but a big Aberdeen win over Motherwell on Saturday would see Rangers drop to rock bottom.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on 26 September in an update on Martin’s situation at Ibrox, amid ongoing talk of the sack, presenter Rob Jones pointed this fact out as the stark reality of Rangers’ current situation has now hit.

“Russell Martin is under huge pressure, with huge sections of the fanbase turning against him,” he stated.

“It seems unthinkable, but they could be bottom of the Scottish Premiership before taking on Livingston on Sunday.

“It’d need a big win from Aberdeen for that to happen.”

Rangers risk sacrificing entire season under Russell Martin

Rangers were expecting to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title given the investment in the summer, but instead they could end up bottom of a league in which few other teams have even had a fraction of their transfer expenditure.

This is a damning fact for the manager, and it shows that Martin has to be sacked as soon as possible, with it clear that he is never going to succeed at Rangers.

If he is sacked and the form can be quickly turned around, Rangers may have enough time to salvage something from the campaign.

However, if Martin continues to drag Rangers into the ground, then the Gers could end up missing European football entirely next season if they end up finishing mid-table, which would not even have been considered a possibility before.
