Ray Parlour predicts Russell Martin sack at Rangers on basis of what he saw at Arsenal

Rangers fans are fed up with Russell Martin, and a Europa League defeat to Genk was the latest bad results in a woeful start to the season.

Supporters unequivocally want the manager to be changed, with Rangers fans protesting against Martin in recent games, after a truly disastrous reign so far.

The Rangers owners have backed Martin, much to the frustration of fans, given that his tactics are stifling a team which has failed to win in the league.

Other clubs have sacked managers when it became clear that the fans voted with their feet, and Rangers could now copy one thing Arsenal did.

Ray Parlour compares Russell Martin to Arsene Wenger

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, and won three league titles under the legendary Arsene Wenger, but his 22-year reign ended badly.

Wenger faced a lot of calls from fans to depart as the team went stale, and his final few months saw the Emirates Stadium get emptier and emptier.

With Rangers fans leaving almost 12,000 seats empty in their defeat to Genk, Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has highlighted how this makes Martin’s exit inevitable, in the same way that Wenger’s was in North London.

“That’s the problem, isn’t it. When fans don’t turn up, and you’re looking around the stadium and there’s empty seats everywhere,” Parlour stated on talkSPORT.

“It happened at Arsenal with Arsene Wenger, when he left the club. At the Emirates, you’d see empties and the board had to make a big, big decision to get rid of the manager.

“That’s going to happen a lot more if [Martin] stays and they keep getting bad results.”

Russell Martin has earned no respect at Rangers

A key difference between Wenger and Martin is that Arsenal’s hesitation in replacing the Frenchman was based on his legendary status at the club, and his previous success.

Wenger was and is still admired by a lot of fans as a manager who commanded the respect of the fanbase, and this could not be further from Martin’s situation.

The former Southampton boss has failed to even win a league game, and Martin’s attitude has also rubbed Rangers fans up the wrong way, with supporters all united against him.

The former Southampton boss does not have the track record, the results or the personality to command any respect at Rangers now, and there is simply no reason to keep him on for even a day longer at Rangers.
