Alan Brazil names shock contender he thinks would replace Russell Martin at Rangers

Rangers’ start to the season went from bad to worse in their opening Europa League clash against Genk.

Ibrox showed their discontent as Rangers lost 1-0 against Genk after a winning strike from former Celtic man Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Martin hoped to use the Europa League to get his team back on track, but matters only worsened when midfielder Mohamed Diomande was sent off for a reckless challenge in the 41st minute.

Alan Brazil states who would get right into Rangers

Rangers could soon need a replacement for Martin, and Alan Brazil and Ray Parlour pointed out Neil Warnock as a shock candidate on talkSPORT.

Brazil said: “Neil would take that job. He’d get right into them. as well.

“I think that pull of Rangers up there, I think he would do it.”

Warnock’s last managerial stint was in the Scottish Premiership, as he oversaw a tenure of eight games as the head coach of Aberdeen.

The 76-year-old has dipped in and out of management in recent years, and has not coached a team for a full season since gaining promotion to the Premier League with Cardiff City in 2017-18.

Warnock would only stabilise Rangers

Given the vast experience Warnock possesses, he has the capabilities to set Rangers on the right track.

The end is nigh for Russell Martin, and it appears Ibrox will have to wait for at least another season for a league title.

The evidence suggests that things are not going to turn around under Martin and a reboot to the system is what they need.

Martin is a firm believer in his style of play, and his Rangers’ style under Martin has been criticised.

Warnock would bring a much more compact and organised style that would make use of strong attackers such as Oliver Antman and Bojan Miovksi.

But the veteran manager would likely not satisfy the long-term desires of the Ibrox faithful.
