Rangers player destroyed for ‘ridiculous’ moment vs Genk as Russell Martin back under pressure

Russell Martin will certainly be under fire as Rangers lost 1-0 to Genk in the Europa League on Thursday

Russell Martin made some bold calls at Ibrox against Thorsten Fink’s team as Youssef Chermiti started over Bojan Miovski on 25 September.

Both teams created opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, with Nicolas Raskin’s header cleared by Bryan Heynen in what was a spectacular moment.

Oh Hyeon-gyu’s penalty towards the end of the opening 45 minutes was saved by Jack Butland, but the centre-forward eventually found the back of the net in the second half.

Mohamed Diomande red card correct in Rangers vs Genk

Mohamed Diomande’s tackle on Zakaria El Ouahdi in the 41st minute of the game between the Gers and Genk was “ridiculous”, Tam McManus says.

The ex-Hibernian forward feels the referee, Matej Jug, was right to send the Cote d’Ivoire international off at Ibrox for his dangerous tackle.

With the 23-year-old’s studs catching the Belgian outfit’s star around the shins, the Glaswegian outfit can have no complaints about the decision.

McManus wrote on X on 25 September: “Ridiculous tackle. Stonewall red card.”

Ibrox faithful can’t catch a break as Mohamed Diomande red card a big blow

Diomande arguably hasn’t been at his best at Ibrox this season, with Nicolas Raskin’s absence certainly not helping him in recent matches.

The Belgium international has been playing in his preferred position as a number six in recent matches, leading to better performances from the team.

With the Light Blues creating several opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, Diomande’s sending off was a big blow for them.

Martin’s record at the Gers

Max Aarons was sent off for Rangers against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium in the Champions League play-off, leading to a 6-0 scoreline.

Genk looked threatening at the start of the second half with a one-man advantage and subsequently scored through Oh.

Martin will now be back under massive pressure from fans as the Scottish manager has already lost too many games in G51.
