Rangers fan makes ‘wacky’ James Tavernier suggestion in Russel Martin sack claim
Russell Martin will be looking to James Tavernier to be one of the leaders in turning things around at Rangers.
The Scottish manager has won just four of his first 13 games in charge of the Gers, leading to scrutiny from supporters in G51.
With the Ibrox faithful protesting for Martin’s dismissal, the former Southampton boss is undoubtedly fighting for his job at the Light Blues.
Andrew Cavenagh should also assess Kevin Thelwell’s position after the Glaswegian outfit’s abysmal start to the season, and change could potentially be on the horizon in the dugout.

James Tavernier wanted in management role at Rangers
With Martin’s future looking bleak at the Gers, one fan wants to see Tavernier in a management role.
Gordon Duncan termed the supporter’s suggestion “wacky”, as the right-back isn’t the most popular figure at Ibrox in recent seasons.
The Sky Sports journalist and radio host was even more surprised by the proposal to make the English defender assistant to the Scottish manager in G51 as the Glaswegian outfit look to turn things around.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 24 September, Duncan said: “I found the first suggestion quite wacky, I’ll be honest, about making Tavernier the manager. But in a strange way, making him assistant to Martin was somehow worse.”

Russell Martin should stick with James Tavernier in starting lineup
Martin was adamant about playing Max Aarons in the backline at the start of the season, but the Bournemouth loanee put in some woeful performances and now finds himself on the bench.
The 25-year-old Englishman was sent off in the opening minutes against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium as the Gers lost 6-0 on the night.
Since then, Tavernier has been an undisputed starter for the Glaswegian outfit and has donned the armband during a patchy period in G51.
- The Gers are 11th in the William Hill Premiership.
- Martin has a 30 per cent win rate at the Light Blues.
- The Glaswegian outfit have conceded 19 goals this season.
Many Rangers fans had wanted Tavernier sold in the previous transfer window, but it looks like he will see out the final year of his contract at Ibrox.
If Martin is sacked in the coming weeks, Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will need to be cautious about who they appoint next, as their judgment has come under question for bringing the Scottish manager to the Light Blues.
The situation at the Glaswegian outfit is certainly worth keeping an eye on.
