Nicolas Raskin exit ‘very close’ as Rangers now have January priority already

Rangers can’t keep hold of Nicolas Raskin forever, and the upcoming transfer windows may determine his future.

The Belgium international has been one of the best players at the Gers in recent seasons, and made a game-changing return to the starting lineup as Hibernian were beaten at Ibrox in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final on 20 September.

Martin seems to have resolved his issues with Raskin, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the midfielder return to his best in G51 in the upcoming matches.

Fans anticipate the 24-year-old to start against Genk in the Europa League on 25 September, giving him another opportunity to catch the eyes on the European stage.

Rangers deal didn’t materialise for Nicolas Raskin transfer

Raskin was left disappointed after a potential move away from the Gers fell through last summer, Gilbert Govaert says.

The midfielder’s grandfather, a former Standard Liege midfielder, revealed that the Belgium international’s exit from Ibrox was all but completed in the previous transfer window.

It seems like the Glaswegian outfit’s number 43 is looking for the next step in his career, but the least the Light Blues should prioritise is keeping him in January.

Speaking to Sudinfo on 24 September, Govaert said: “If there’s one thing Nicolas inherited from me, I think it’s that resilience you’re talking about. I never felt he was defeatist or tearful. He came very close to leaving the Rangers this summer. When the deal fell through, his disappointment at the time was real.”

Ibrox profit on cards with Nicolas Raskin transfer

Raskin is arguably the most valuable asset at Ibrox, with the midfielder attracting serious interest in recent months.

The ex-Liege star was undoubtedly the Gers’ best player last season as they made it to the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

Wolves and Crystal Palace wanted Raskin last summer, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see more teams from down south make a move for him in January.

With the Belgian national’s current contract at Rangers expiring in 2027, a summer transfer seems to be on the cards.

The Gers signed the midfielder for around £1.5million in January 2023, and they could surely demand an eight-figure fee for him.

For now, supporters will hope Raskin can contribute to turning the tide at Ibrox as Martin battles for his future.
