Ross McCormack shares what he has heard about Nico Raskin at Rangers after Ibrox saga
Ibrox has been anything but quiet in recent months, with protests and widespread outrage directed at Rangers manager Russell Martin.
Rangers face off against Genk in the Europa League on Thursday night as Martin’s time at Ibrox appears to be running out.
Martin’s worst Rangers game was a 6-0 hammering against Club Brugge, where he dropped Nico Raskin from the starting line-up.
Raskin and Martin’s feud has since been made public, as the situation involving Rangers’ star man has turned more fans against the manager.
Former Gers player Ross McCormack has revealed insider information on what he believes happened between the pair, now that the midfielder has returned to action.

Ross McCormack says there’s ‘something bigger’ that’s happened between Russell Martin and Nico Raskin
McCormack started his career at Ibrox with Rangers in 2002 before being released in 2006.
He explained on Open Goal how he knows people connected to the Ibrox club who have told him more in-depth information about Raskin and possibly even the bust-up.
“I know quite a few people who know Russell, and people are saying that Raskin is being hard to work with and all that,” he said.
“This doesn’t scream to me that it’s just an episode where a player is just questioning a manager and the way they’re doing things, it’s something bigger than that.
“I don’t think Russell Martin is the kind of guy that would leave a player out because a player’s got an opinion or question on why they’re doing that.”
Barry Bannan also offered insight into Martin’s characteristics as the pair know each other from their playing days for the Scottish national team.
Rangers’ game against Genk on 25 September will be a good indication to Gers fans as to whether or not Raskin has an important role to play while Martin is still at the club.
Nico Raskin is key to any success that Rangers have this year
Raskin joined the Bears in 2023 from Belgian side Standard Liege.
The Belgium international is contracted to the Gers until 2027 and has been instrumental to any of the success that Rangers have had in recent years.
- Won the Premier Sports Cup with Rangers in the 2023/24 season
- Racked up 16 goals and assists last year for the Gers
- Won Rangers Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year in 2024/25
Raskin is admired for his relentless work ethic and technical quality – two attributes that are noticeably absent when he’s not in the side.
It’s only early days in the 25/26 campaign, and many games are ahead for Rangers, but if they are to turn things around, then their best chance is Raskin playing week in, week out.
