Rangers prospect ‘astonishing’ as Russell Martin faces historic failure at Ibrox
Rangers have gotten off to one of their worst starts in a season under Russell Martin.
The Scottish manager has won just four of his 13 games in charge of the Gers, leading to fan unrest in G51.
Rangers fans protested against Martin at Ibrox before the kick-off against Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final, making their feelings about him abundantly clear.
Andrew Cavenagh must also scrutinise Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart after the Glaswegian outfit’s abysmal prospects in the current campaign, with the team sitting nine points behind Celtic and Hearts.

Rangers position in William Hill Premiership unfathomable, but it’s still early doors
Tam McManus can’t believe the Gers are 11th in the league table after five games.
The ex-Hibs forward wouldn’t have predicted such a situation at Ibrox in a million years as the Light Blues find themselves near the bottom of the table with Aberdeen.
While McManus is surprised by the Glaswegian outfit’s predicament early on in the season, there’s still a long way to go in the league.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer on 22 September, the Scotsman said: “It’s an astonishing league table if we’re being honest. You would never have predicted that in a million years. Aberdeen and Rangers are in the bottom two. It’s still early in the season. If you look between third and 11th, it’s two points. There are a lot of teams there.”

Russell Martin has domestic cup priority at Ibrox
Martin will hope to face Celtic at Hampden Park in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final and keep hopes of a domestic title alive at the Gers.
The Light Blues are already at a significant disadvantage in the William Hill Premiership, and it would undoubtedly take something special for them to win the title from here.
While the Ibrox faithful can only hope for the best in the league, the Scottish manager has to give them something to cheer for in other domestic competitions.

Rangers are all but out of the William Hill Premiership title race, but they will have a chance to win the first trophy of the season by beating Celtic on 1 November.
It remains to be seen whether the 39-year-old head coach will remain in charge until the Old Firm derby, as supporters want to see a change in the dugout.
Martin needs much more than a win against Hibernian to get fans back onside at Ibrox.
