Rangers have key weapon that could ‘unleash hell’ vs Genk in Europa League

Rangers will look to start their Europa League campaign with a win over Genk at Ibrox on Thursday.

The Bears will look to repeat the magnificent run that saw them get to the final in 2022; however, that does not look likely at the moment.

Russell Martin is on the verge of being sacked, as the mood around G51 is at an all-time low.

With fan protests overshadowing their 2-0 victory against Hibernian last time out, Rangers must string a run of wins together to get the fans back on board.

Ibrox atmosphere will intimidate struggling Genk

Ibrox is known to be volatile for any away team, and the Light Blues will need to feed off it if they are to gain a positive result.

In quotes shared via the Daily Record, former Rangers and Genk player Thomas Buffel spoke about how Ibrox can change in the flick of a switch.

He said: “Rangers are still finding their feet right now, but it doesn’t take much to set the stadium on fire.

“A hard tackle or a moment where the whole team goes on the attack can be enough to unleash hell for 90 minutes.

“The stadium has that authentic feel. Some parts of the stadium haven’t changed since it was built. At Rangers, you always get that wow feeling.”

Genk are still predicted by some to beat Rangers despite the fact that the Belgians are having struggles of their own this season – that’s how downhill things have gone in Govan.

Rangers have enjoyed many European nights at Ibrox, whether that be the brilliant win over RB Leipzig in 2022 or the spirited comeback versus Braga in 2020.

At this moment in time, Rangers are on the verge of a crisis, and the leaders of the dressing room will have to step up against Genk if they are to start their European campaign in the right way.

Russell Martin must start experienced players vs Genk

Too often, we have seen young players freeze in big European nights due to the occasion that they’re a part of.

Martin must not experiment with any youngsters or any players who are out of form just for the sake of giving them some minutes.

John Souttar, James Tavernier, Nico Raskin, Bojan Miovski, and Derek Cornelius should all retain their places in the starting line-up.

All five of these players have successful experiences of playing in some of the most difficult places in the world, and they could drive Rangers towards a much-needed victory.

A win against Genk could prove to be the start of a renaissance under Martin, yet a loss would inflict further damage on his strained relationship with the fans.
