Julian Warren drops Rangers bombshell on Sky Sports News – ‘Would you believe it?’
Rangers’ crisis could worsen in the coming hours despite not even playing any domestic football until Sunday.
Russell Martin’s struggling Rangers side are next in action against Genk in the Europa League on Thursday night, in a welcome break from their embarrassing failures in the Scottish Premiership.
The Light Blues won for the first time this season against a Scottish team higher than League One on Saturday when they beat Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final at Ibrox.
As a result, Rangers will face Celtic in the semi-finals in November at Hampden Park in a repeat of last season’s final.
While the week leading up to the Gers’ home clash against Genk has been a distraction from an abject, winless start in the Scottish Premiership, ahead of kick-off at Ibrox on Thursday, Rangers could find the focus firmly back on their league failures.

Rangers could be bottom of table before kick-off vs Livingston
Martin’s start at Rangers has been so bad it’s broken records – but things could be about to get worse.
Aberdeen are currently bottom of the Scottish Premiership with zero goals and one point from four games, three points behind the Ibrox giants in 11th.
However, they play Dundee United on Tuesday night at Tannadice before heading to Motherwell on Saturday evening.
Sky Sports News presenter Julian Warren pointed out ahead of the Dons’ clash against the Tangerines that four points from their next two games will put Martin’s side bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
Date | Opponent | Result |
2 August | Motherwell (A) | 1-1 (D) |
9 August | Dundee (H) | 1-1 (D) |
24 August | St Mirren (A) | 1-1 (D) |
31 August | Celtic (H) | 0-0 (D) |
13 September | Hearts (H) | 2-0 (L) |
“Aberdeen are three points adrift at the bottom from three sides, including Rangers, who are also winless,” said Warrnen on Sky Sports News on Tuesday night ahead of Aberdeen’s kick-off at Dundee United.
“By the way, Aberdeen play twice – including [Tuesday night] – before Rangers are next in league action. So four points from their games against Dundee United and Motherwell, would you believe it, would mean Russell Martin‘s side will be bottom of the league when they kick off at Livingston on Sunday.
“It’s a big if on Aberdeen’s current form but it could happen.”

What has David Martindale said about Livingston vs Rangers?
After playing Genk at Ibrox on Thursday, Rangers will head to Almondvale to play Livingston at 3pm on Sunday.
Livi have five points from six games with only Hearts (12) and Dundee United (9) currently outscoring them in the Scottish Premiership.
However, on the other side of that, David Martindale‘s side have conceded more goals (11) than any other in the league at this stage.
- Rangers have won their last four league meetings with Livingston
- The West Lothian club last beat the Gers in September 2018
- Livi manager Martindale was a Rangers youth player in his playing days
- He is the longest-serving manager in the Scottish Premiership, having joined Livingston in December 2020
When speaking to Sky Sports on Tuesday, Martindale was asked if Rangers’ troubles are in his mind ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
He said: “No, not at all. I’m trying not to comment on other clubs to be honest. We’ve just come up this year, I’ve been caught out by that in previous years.
“I just want to focus on Livingston. But I will say, it was a good result at the weekend for Rangers. They’ve got another game coming on Thursday.”
