Russell Martin still isn’t working as Rangers sack verdict drops after latest Ibrox win
Rangers advanced to the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup following a 2-0 win over Hibernian at Ibrox on Saturday evening.
Russell Martin continues to face pressure as the Ibrox club somehow sits 11th and winless in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Ibrox is currently a cauldron of toxicity, with fans protesting against Martin and Patrick Stewart before and during the match against Hibs.
Martin must do a lot more to win the fans over, especially those who were against him from the start.

Russell Martin appointment still not working despite win
Martin is still in must-win territory, with the upcoming Europa League tie against Genk a crucial match in his Rangers tenure.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 22 September, Rangers legend Ally McCoist spoke of the fans’ opinion over the appointment of Martin.
He said: “A lot of Rangers fans didn’t want the appointment of Russell Martin, and he said that himself.
“But, a lot of the fans were willing to give Martin a chance, and at this moment in time, it isn’t working. I know they had a good victory at the weekend, but Hibs were very unlucky to have a goal disallowed.
“Sometimes those decisions go for you, sometimes they go against you, as we saw in Rangers versus Hearts.”
McCoist has been critical of Rangers many times this season, following their abject performances on both domestic and European fronts.
They now enter a hugely important phase of their season as they look to start well in the Europa League and secure their first win in the Scottish Premiership.
Genk (h) | 25 September |
Livingston (a) | 28 September |
Sturm Graz (a) | 2 October |
Anything less than three wins in these games would once again spell a lot of trouble for Martin.
Russell Martin must be sacked if Rangers lose to Genk
Rangers take on Genk at Ibrox next in the Europa League, with the visitors yet to keep a clean sheet in all competitions this season.
Martin must continue to start Nico Raskin, with the pair having repaired their relationship following the transfer saga that took place in the transfer window.
Bojan Miovski’s first goal for the Govan club has definitely helped ease the minds of Rangers fans who are concerned about where their goals will come from.
Most importantly, Martin has finally claimed his first big win as Rangers manager, and this should propel the side to put in a display that isn’t lacklustre, dull, or uninspiring.
Martin’s style of play is not one the Rangers fans have got behind, and rightfully so, but a convincing win against Genk could be the springboard for a brighter future.
A draw or a loss must mean that Martin’s reign should be over, yet the way Andrew Cavenagh continues to back the former Southampton manager, Rangers fans will have to live with more painful results.
