Rangers news round-up: Nico Raskin claim made as SFA send out clear message

Rangers fans had something to cheer for as they ended their winless run by beating Hibernian at Ibrox.

Fans protested against Russell Martin and Patrick Stewart as Rangers won 2-0, which has now marginally eased the immediate pressure on the under-fire manager.

The goalscoring return of Nicolas Raskin was the highlight for fans after the midfielder was previously exiled by Martin, and it is hoped that the Belgian can continue to impress in the middle of the park.

There have been new developments for Rangers ahead of their Europa League clash with Genk, and Ibrox News has now rounded up the latest news.

Ally McCoist makes Nicolas Raskin claim

Raskin’s return showed just how important he is for Rangers, and the midfielder is now expected to keep his starting spot following his time away from the team.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has now claimed that Raskin should be made captain, in a statement decision for Martin to show that the hatchet has been buried.

The Belgium star has made 105 appearances for Rangers, scoring seven goals, and is arguably the best midfielder in Scotland.

Union Bears slammed for Rangers protest

The Union Bears protested against Martin during the Hibs victory by throwing balls onto the pitch, which caused a delay as play had to be paused to clear them off.

There were large protests outside the ground before the match, but the Union Bears have now been criticised for the manner of their protest, as it actually disrupted Rangers’ momentum after a bright start to the game.

Rangers went on to win, but not everyone was happy with the in-game protests, despite the sentiment being a popular one among fans.

Nicolas Raskin rumour debunked

There was speculation over why Raskin was dropped from the team, and rumours circulated that he was leaking team news to the Club Brugge manager before Rangers’ humiliation in the Champions League.

However, Keith Jackson has now debunked this rumour about Raskin, and claimed that it does not fit in with his character, based on what Raskin is like behind the scenes.

With Raskin now back in the team, it would be a shock if he is exiled by Martin again.

Rangers face sanctions over pyrotechnics

Rangers will face Celtic in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup, but they will have a reduced allocation after being punished by the Scottish FA.

1,000 tickets have been deducted as the SFA made the decision as Rangers fans broke rules regarding pyrotechnics.

Keith Hackett has now claimed that the SFA are making a statement with this decision, and hopes that Rangers fans will avoid similar offences in the future.
