Keith Jackson laughs off ‘silly’ Rangers fan claim about Russell Martin in Europa League
Rangers face Genk in the Europa League next after beating Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday.
Russell Martin was triumphant against David Gray, and the Scottish manager will finally breathe a small sigh of relief after the 2-0 win over Hibs on 20 September.
The former Southampton boss will hope to build on the victory as the Belgian outfit visit G51 on 25 September.
Martin is still under extreme pressure at Ibrox, as fans want to see him gone regardless of the results of the upcoming matches.

Russell Martin sack wanted even if Rangers win Europa League
Keith Jackson couldn’t believe it when one Gers fan said supporters wanted Martin gone even if he wins the Europa League title.
The Daily Record journalist laughed off the suggestion as “silly” and even dismissed the prospect of the Scottish manager being able to win the European trophy at Ibrox.
With the Light Blues struggling under the ex-Saints boss, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him gone if he loses any of the upcoming matches.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 21 September, Jackson said: “That would be silly. The idea that Martin could win the Europa League is silly as well, given the evidence of what we’ve seen so far.”

Russell Martin meets Genk at right time at Ibrox
Martin will arguably need to do something exceptional at Ibrox to keep his job after fan vitriol, and a legendary winning run could be required to pull supporters back onside.
The Scottish manager has won just four of his 13 games in charge at the Gers, which isn’t enough for a club looking to compete for trophies.
With the Light Blues already nine points behind Celtic and Hearts in the William Hill Premiership, it would be surprising to see them win the league.
- Martin hasn’t won a single league game at the Gers.
- The Light Blues sit 10th in the league table.
- The Glaswegian outfit have gotten off to their worst start in the league since 1978.
Rangers face Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final, and it remains to be seen who will keep their hopes of lifting the first title of the season alive.
Genk aren’t in the best of form right now, failing to win any of their last three games in the Jupiler Pro League.
The Belgian outfit have won just two of their eight league matches this season, arguably making them the perfect opponent for the Gers to get their confidence back.
