Russell Martin told it’s ‘game over’ at Rangers as owners head to Ibrox

Russell Martin will have nowhere to hide as Rangers face Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Scottish manager finds himself on thin ice as David Gray’s team travel to Ibrox on 20 September as the Gers look to make it to the semi-finals of the cup competition.

Barry Ferguson has predicted Martin will beat Hibernian, with a change in tactics suggested by the Light Blues’ former interim head coach.

However, the former Southampton boss may have already sealed his fate at the Glaswegian outfit regardless of the results against Hibs.

Kris Boyd expects Russell Martin sack at Rangers

Martin will be sacked by the Gers sooner rather than later, Kris Boyd says.

The ex-forward feels the time’s up for the Scottish manager at Ibrox, with protests planned against him and Patrick Stewart ahead of kick-off in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final.

Boyd is aware that the likes of Andrew Cavenagh may be present in the stands, and they will witness the fury among the supporters.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on 20 September at 12:50, the Scotsman said: “I think it’s already game over [for Martin], it’s just a matter of when. I think the owners are in today as well, and they’ll feel the atmosphere in the stadium.

“As I said, last week it was absolutely toxic, and it won’t be any different today because there are protests outside against the manager and Stewart, who’s under enormous pressure as well.”

Andrew Cavenagh should appoint Steven Gerrard at Ibrox

Kevin Thelwell may hinder Steven Gerrard’s return to Ibrox as the sporting director may not want someone questioning his authority on recruitment.

The Liverpool icon will undoubtedly want to have a say in who the Gers sign, and that could potentially be an obstacle in his appointment.

Cavenagh has been offered a phone call with Gerrard as the Glaswegian outfit struggled under Martin.

Rangers need to find a replacement for the Scottish manager, as it’s clear that he’s out of his depth in G51.

Since supporters have already turned against the ex-Saints boss, there may be no way back for him at the Gers, unless the US consortium want to risk fan mutiny by continuing to back him.

Gerrard has been at the Light Blues, winning the league title, and the American owners arguably have a no-brainer decision on their hands.
