Russell Martin simply doesn’t get it after what he’s said about Rangers backlash

Russell Martin’s Rangers nightmare may soon come to an end.

Rangers face Hibernian this weekend in the Premier Sports Cup, with anything less than a win out of the question.

Martin is under a huge amount of pressure after a dismal start to his Rangers reign, with his only domestic win coming against Alloa Athletic.

Martin seems to have disillusioned some of the Rangers squad as well as large sections of the fan base, and his latest quotes won’t help matters.

Russell Martin fails to take responsibility for Rangers’ problems

Martin was speaking ahead of Saturday’s game at Ibrox, and his latest remarks are sure to annoy Rangers fans.

Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Martin said: “Coming to a club like this, I knew the intensity of it. If you want to enjoy it when it is going well, you know you will have to deal with tough moments.”

Asking Rangers fans to endure the terrible start to earn the right to celebrate successes is a really poor message from the manager, but the damaging quotes didn’t stop there.

He added: “Very rarely do you arrive at a club when there is not a problem.

“At every club we have been at, there are tough moments, but the potential is huge for the group if we work through the difficult moments together.”

Martin is dodging responsibility, claiming there were problems before he arrived and not accepting his part in Rangers’ awful form.

As a reminder, Rangers is not a project club. And failing to beat the team Rangers have so far failed to beat this campaign is simply not justifiable in any way.

Russell Martin owes Rangers fans much more

Rangers fans are already calling for Martin’s head, and his latest quotes will certainly not help matters.

The Scot is treating Rangers like a project club, when it is far from that and expects success every season.

Martin has led Rangers to their worst start in 47 years and is expecting supporters to have patience and accept the position they’re currently in.

Rangers fans will see right through this and know that going five games without a win is simply not acceptable.

Andrew Cavenagh needs to decide to get rid of Martin so both parties can admit their mistake and continue on without each other for the rest of the season.
