Liam Kelly addresses Russell Martin sack pressure as Rangers players’ stance is revealed

Russell Martin faces the sack at Rangers if results don’t see a drastic improvement.

Rangers face Hibs this weekend at Ibrox as they look to reach the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers will be in attendance for the game, with Martin’s position under real scrutiny if Rangers fail to win.

It has been Rangers’ worst start to the season since 1978, with supporters taking their frustrations out on the players in the stands, last time out against Hearts.

If there is another poor showing at Ibrox, fans will surely be making their feelings clear to the manager and the board that the current situation is unacceptable.

Liam Kelly backing Russell Martin to turn things around

Martin has been criticised for his treatment of Rangers players, but it appears that some are still behind him.

Liam Kelly was speaking ahead of Saturday’s game and said the players need to start taking responsibility and was fully supportive of Martin: “Ultimately, we need to start applying the principles of how the manager wants us to play.

The manager is in full agreement that we need to play better; he knows that, and we are all behind him as a group.”

Kelly went on to say that the players need to show they are fully behind Martin: “Our job as Rangers players is to give our all for the manager. The real test playing for Rangers is when things are not going well, we need to stand up as a group.”

The goalkeeper has made his position clear about what he thinks of his manager, and hopefully, this will translate to the pitch.

Russell Martin will need the support of players

If Martin has any hope of turning things around, he will need the full support of his players.

Kelly’s comments are encouraging, but need to be shown on the field of play if they are to be fully believed.

Martin has fallen out with Nicolas Raskin, but the Belgian seems to be back in favour and available for selection against Hibs.

If the players are truly on the manager’s side, that should reflect on the pitch on Saturday.

Everyone associated Rangers know how big the Hibs game is and could be a real turning point in the season.
