Joe Rothwell lets feelings known on Russell Martin with social media activity

Joe Rothwell has had a difficult start to his Rangers career.

The English midfielder has really struggled since his arrival this summer and hasn’t delivered on the field.

Rothwell arrived at Rangers with plenty of fanfare from Bournemouth this summer but has yet to live up to the hype, with some really uninspiring performances.

There have been calls to drop Rothwell from the Rangers side, following the Gers’ disastrous start to the season, where they’re yet to win a league game.

He has now made his position in the team potentially untenable with his latest activity on social media.

Joe Rothwell criticises Russell Martin over positioning

Russell Martin has had a disastrous start as Rangers boss, with his position already becoming more and more likely to come to an end.

Martin has alienated some of his Rangers playing squad with his treatment of Nicolas Raskin, and it’s clear Rothwell is unhappy too.

Rothwell took to Instagram to like a post on Open Goal, in which ex-teammate Barry Douglas said he’s being played out of position.

Douglas said he’s better in the pockets and one of the quickest on the ball he’s played with, but that has not been the case with Rangers.

Rothwell liking this post is clearly a dig at Martin, who has been playing Rothwell deep in midfield, instead of further forward.

Rothwell appears unhappy with what he’s been asked to do and has now made his feelings abundantly clear about his manager.

Joe Rothwell has been one of the most disappointing Rangers signings

Rothwell was supposed to come in to bring some experience and guile to the Rangers midfield, but has so far failed to do so.

Rothwell’s performances have been well below par, with fans clearly disappointed with his showings so far.

A player of Rothwell’s ability, who has played at a Premier League level, was supposed to elevate the level of Rangers’ midfield.

While the Englishman may feel he’s being played out of position, he certainly still has been nothing short of a massive disappointment at Ibrox.
