Russell Martin comments on Ibrox leave ex-Rangers figure in disbelief – ‘Wow’
Russell Martin continues to face scrutiny ahead of Rangers’ Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Hibernian.
Martin is on the verge of being sacked following a winless start to life in the Scottish Premiership season.
Andrew Cavenagh will be in attendance for the Hibs clash, and a loss would surely spell the end of Martin’s short Rangers career.
Rangers fans are absolutely furious with Martin, whilst a former player-turned-coach had some brutal words for the former Southampton manager following his comments following the 2-0 defeat to Hearts.

Gregory Vignal slams Russell Martin’s ‘scared’ comment
Vignal was part of the 2005 title-winning squad at Rangers, and returned to become a coach under Steven Gerrard.
In an article for the Daily Record, Vignal spoke about how his former managers would never sign players they believed to be scared , after Martin said that some Rangers players were scared to play at Ibrox.
He said: “I heard the manager say on Saturday that the players are scared to play at Ibrox. So why are they signing those types of players? And why are they coming to play for this club if they are scared?
“I don’t remember hearing McLeish, Dick Advocaat, or Walter Smith ever saying something like that. They wouldn’t sign players who were scared to play.
“You shouldn’t be scared to play at Ibrox. It’s a privilege. In France, we always use the word fortress. That’s your house, and no one should be going there to pick up points. That’s how you have to treat it. How can you be scared to play in front of 50,000 fans? Wow.”
Toxicity is at an all-time high at Ibrox, and Martin has lost the support of pretty much the entire Rangers fanbase.

The style of play is a huge concern, with the Light Blues predictable and ineffective in attack, whilst being weak and vulnerable in defence.
It’s up to the leaders in the dressing room to address these issues, yet captain James Tavernier – among others – seems to be unable to stop the downward spiral.

James Tavernier needs to do more
Tavernier is one of the great, modern-day legends of Rangers, having joined the club back in 2015.
The right-back has scored a staggering 133 goals in 523 appearances for the club, yet this season, he has been a shell of his former self.
He admitted after the Hearts game that it’s the worst start to the season that he has been a part of at the club.
However, what’s clear is that this young Rangers squad needs some leaders to reinforce the winning mentality at the club instead of the captain admitting how bad things are in the media.
Tavernier will always be a Rangers hero, but in this period of turmoil, he needs to lead by example otherwise, Rangers will be facing further struggles under Martin
