Rangers rebuild on cards under Sean Dyche after Russell Martin sack

Sean Dyche could potentially replace Russell Martin at Rangers after a poor start to the season.

The Gers have gotten off to their worst start in the league in 47 years, failing to win any of their first five matches in the William Hill Premiership under the Scottish manager.

Martin’s successors are already being identified at Ibrox, which isn’t surprising given the recent toxicity in G51.

Andrew Cavenagh has been offered a phone call with Steven Gerrard, but the former Everton head coach may be the right candidate to fix the disaster at the Glaswegian outfit.

Sean Dyche obvious candidate to replace Russell Martin at Rangers

Dyche’s appointment at the Gers may be a no-brainer if Martin is sacked, Kris Boyd says.

The ex-Scotland international believes the Light Blues need a strong character at Ibrox to turn things around, and the English manager has proven to be that in Merseyside and Burnley.

Boyd wants to see Kevin Thelwell leverage his past relationship with the 54-year-old head coach to convince him to join the Glaswegian outfit.

Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland on 17 September, the Scotsman said: “The obvious one for me would be Dyche. Thelwell has worked with him in the past. He seems to have a lot of say on the players that are coming in as well. If that relationship with Dyche is still there, then he would be someone I would maybe Iook to, because he’s shown that he can build football clubs up.

“Right now, Rangers need a strong character that’s going to build it not only on the pitch, but off the pitch, at the training centre.”

Kevin Thelwell can trust Sean Dyche to fix mess at Ibrox

Dyche was linked with the Ibrox hotseat as the Gers were looking for a permanent manager to succeed Barry Ferguson.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Englishman associated with the top job at the Light Blues once Martin is relieved of his duties.

The former Everton manager went to Goodison Park during a difficult period while Thelwell was still their sporting director and helped them avoid relegation on a few occasions.

Dyche’s managerial history:

Rangers are in a right mess under Martin, and his sacking feels inevitable after how things have transpired in recent days.

The Ibrox faithful called for the Scottish manager’s dismissal during the loss to Hearts on 13 September and are planning further protests in G51.

It will be interesting to see who the hierarchy will feel is the right candidate to steady the ship in G51 once the ex-Southampton boss leaves.
