Rangers news round-up: Andrew Cavenagh at Ibrox for Hibs match, new Derek McInnes claim made

Russell Martin is facing increasing pressure at Rangers following the 2-0 loss to Hearts.

Martin continues to face calls to be sacked from Rangers fans, as the club’s winless league run has stretched to five games.

Morale at Ibrox is at an all-time low, with Andrew Cavenagh and Patrick Stewart among those facing intense criticism.

Ibrox News has rounded up the latest Rangers news, as Martin prepares for the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Hibs on Saturday.

Kris Boyd believes Russell Martin has led Rangers fans to do something never seen before

Boyd claimed that he never heard Ibrox as angry as it was during Saturday’s defeat to Hearts.

Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland on 17 September, Boyd said: “No, I can’t [see a way back for Martin]. The tipping point was a few weeks ago. I’ve never ever heard a football stadium like it was on Saturday. The fans have had enough.”

The result has left Rangers sitting in 10th place in the table, yet Martin continues to be backed by the board.

It’s clear that Martin’s time in the Rangers dugout is almost up, and the fans will have little faith in who the owners have in mind to replace him.

Nico Raskin and Russell Martin situation as bad as it looks

Nico Raskin was left out of the quad for the game against Hearts, as relations with Martin still seem to be strained.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 16 September, Gordon Dalziel said: “There must be something so bad between Raskin and Martin or the dressing room that’s happened that he’s not playing.

Rangers fans must wonder what Raskin has done for him to be frozen out by Martin, especially when the Belgian midfielder is considered to be the team’s best player.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the saga must come to an end not just for Rangers’ sake, but for Raskin’s potential ambitions at making the Belgium squad.

Andrew Cavenagh set to attend Hibs match

Cavenagh has been criticised for not having a relationship with Gers fans, having become the chairman of Rangers in May.

Cavenagh will attend the Hibs match, and witness first-hand why Rangers fans are o angry at the moment.

It’s clear to see that Martin’s relationship with the fans won’t improve, and the longer Martin stays at the club, the more frustration supporters will have towards Cavenagh.

McInnes has started life well at Hearts

Derek McInnes would solve Rangers’ issues

Hearts manager McInnes secured his side’s first win at Ibrox since 2014, and is loving life in Edinburgh.

In an article for the Daily Record, former Hearts striker Stevenson said: “People might laugh, but if McInnes did take that job, the first thing he would do is get back to suits and brown brogues. He’d drag the whole club straight back to what he remembered as a player, and they’d be all the better for it.”

Following Philippe Clement’s sacking in February, Rangers had the perfect chance to hire McInnes, who was at Kilmarnock at the time.

However, they didn’t, and Rangers have now been urged to get McInnes at all costs; a scenario which looks incredibly unlikely.
