Nicolas Raskin has done the unthinkable for Russell Martin snub at Rangers

Rangers may have a massive issue on their hands with Russell Martin and Nicolas Raskin.

The 24-year-old watched his teammates get beaten by Hearts at Ibrox in the William Hill Premiership on 13 September from the stands.

Martin seems to have an issue with Raskin, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds in the coming days.

The Glaswegian outfit have a crunch fixture against Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup on 20 September, and the Belgium international’s availability will undoubtedly be the focus pre-match.

Russell Martin and Nicolas Raskin rift at Rangers looks bad

Raskin would’ve been reinstated into the Gers squad if his issue with Martin wasn’t serious, Gordon Dalziel says.

The ex-striker feels the Belgian star must’ve done something very bad to miss two consecutive games at Ibrox.

Dalziel suggests that the midfielder may have not only offended the Scottish manager, but also his teammates, considering the punishment he’s facing.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 16 September, he said: “There must be something so bad between Raskin and Martin or the dressing room that’s happened that he’s not playing.

“It baffles me because if it was just a couple of little things that happened and one or two things were said, then you patch them up, you get him onto the pitch because he’s your best midfield player. But for Martin to stick to his guns, then his statement that he has to earn the trust of the players means it’s not just between Raskin and Martin; the players are involved in this. I do believe it’s a massive thing.”

Kevin Thelwell must step in after Nicolas Raskin controversy

Raskin was linked with an exit from Ibrox in the previous transfer window, but in the end, a deal didn’t materialise.

The Belgium international is arguably the best player on the Gers’ books, but Martin has been reluctant to play him.

Had the Scottish manager been winning games in G51, there would be more questions being asked of the midfielder’s potential unwarranted conduct, but the fans’ ire is set on the former Southampton boss for now.

Raskin is someone who could’ve saved Martin from getting sacked at Rangers, but a change in the dugout now feels inevitable.

The supporters have been displeased with the exclusion of the ex-Standard Liege star from the team, expressing their opinion during the loss to Hearts.

Kevin Thelwell promised to mediate things between Raskin and Martin during the international break, but only time will tell what the future holds for the two.
