Nick Walsh’s three biggest Rangers controversies ranked as he’s named referee vs Hibernian

Rangers have endured a horrific start to the season with no wins in their opening five Scottish Premiership games.

Russell Martin is now under massive pressure, and fans are clearly fed up with the on-field performances at Ibrox.

They have a chance to bounce back in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday as they welcome Hibernian to Ibrox, with a semi-final spot on the line.

Rangers beat Alloa Athletic in their last game in this competition, in their only domestic win so far this season.

Rangers were the victims of a poor refereeing decision last time out against Hearts, and fans will be disappointed at the news ahead of the Hibs game.

Nick Walsh will be the man in charge of the fixture against Hibs this weekend.

This news will no doubt annoy Gers fans as Walsh has a chequered history when refereeing the Bears.

Diomande sending off vs Dundee United

Walsh gave Mohamed Diomande a red card in stoppage time for a shove on Kevin Holt. VAR called over Walsh to potentially reconsider his decision, but he stuck with his original decision. Rangers appealed the decision, and the red card was eventually revoked.

Disallowed goal vs Celtic

Abdallah Sima thought he’d given the Ibrox side the lead, only for VAR to rule it out for a foul on Celtic’s keeper Joe Hart by Nicolas Raskin. Then Rangers boss Phillipe Clement was critical of the decision as Celtic went on to win the game 1-0.

Ianis Hagi penalty incident vs Celtic

Walsh waved away a penalty in the last Old Firm of the season when Raskin had a shot saved by Viljami Sinisalo before the ball fell to Hagi, who was tumbled down onto the floor by Callum McGregor before he could take a shot. The Rangers’ bench was furious with the decision, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
