Simon Jordan hits out at Rangers fans after what he saw them do at Ibrox

Russell Martin is under massive pressure at Rangers after a disastrous start.

Rangers lost 2-0 to Hearts at Ibrox to remain winless in the Scottish Premiership this season, as Laurence Shankland scored twice.

Martin has been subject to massive pressure for weeks, as fans were heard screaming for the Englishman’s sacking after Saturday’s defeat.

Rangers are also out of the Champions League after losing 6-0 to Club Brugge in Belgium, and 9-1 on aggregate, and it looks to be a matter of time until the Gers are looking for a new manager.

Rangers fans slammed for anti-Russell Martin banner

The defeat in Brugge was met with extreme anger from Gers fans, who were heard in the stands calling for Martin‘s sacking before the final whistle.

Rangers then were able to grind out a respectable 0-0 draw with Celtic in the Old Firm at Ibrox, but a banner was displayed prior to the game saying “Get him out, before the stands are empty”.

With the pressure growing on the former Southampton manager, Simon Jordan has condemned the behaviour from the Rangers fans who made and put up the banner outside the ground.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 16 September, Jordan said: “I didn’t like it the other day, when they came back from a European tie, the Club Brugge humbling, and there was a big banner put outside of Ibrox.

“No one saw it amongst themselves to say: ‘We’d better get that taken down’. So the team rocked up, Russell Martin gets off a bus, sees this man has got to be gotten rid of from our football club.

“This hysterical reaction, this over-the-top reaction to the fact that they didn’t want him in the first place, as he says yesterday.

“I just don’t like the idea that people can shout people out of jobs, without giving people enough [time].”

Russell Martin’s time is up at Rangers

The appointment of Martin wasn’t well received by the Gers fans from the off, after the Englishman was sacked at Southampton at Christmas after a 5-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Fans, however, did give him their backing in the summer as they sought stability, but it is clear to see that this experiment has backfired on Andrew Cavenagh.

With the Gers sat in 10th after the worst start to a season in 47 years, it’s time for Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprise to admit their error and let Martin go, before this season becomes unsalvageable.

With Celtic struggling this season, a new manager could give Rangers a real chance of getting back into the title race, but with the Englishman at the helm, that reality is almost impossible.
