Kris Boyd fears for Andrew Cavenagh as Russell Martin finished at Rangers

Andrew Cavenagh may regret backing Russell Martin at Rangers after they lost to Hearts.

Derek McInnes’ team were triumphant at Ibrox for the first time in 11 years as Lawrence Shankland scored a brace in the 2-0 victory.

The Gers now find themselves 10th in the league table as they suffer their worst start in 47 years in the league after being unable to win any of their five matches.

Cavenagh has held talks with Martin, and the Scottish manager is expected to take charge of the Glaswegian outfit against Hibernian on 20 September, but that may have consequences.

Rangers fans to take aim at Andrew Cavenagh as Russell Martin under pressure

Cavenagh may soon have to answer questions at the Gers, as fans will forget about Martin soon, Kris Boyd says.

The ex-forward believes the Scottish manager is finished at Ibrox and the supporters will soon turn their focus to the decision makers.

Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell have also been warned as the 39-year-old head coach’s future seems inevitable in G51.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on 15 September, Boyd said: “The manager is getting it right now, but there will come a stage they forget the manager because to them he’s finished anyway. Then all of a sudden it’s Stewart that’s got to answer questions. Then it’s Thelwell. Then Cavenagh will be brought into it as well. And the last thing you want as owners of a football club is for you to get it.”

Ibrox faithful want Kevin Thelwell to take responsibility for Russell Martin failure

Thelwell may be looking over his shoulders at Ibrox as he played a key role in appointing Martin at the Gers.

It’s clear that the ex-Saints boss’ appointment hasn’t worked out at the Light Blues, but it looks like the hierarchy still hold some hope.

Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ faith in the Scottish manager could potentially backfire soon, as Hibs could knock them out of the Premier Sports Cup.

Rangers are arguably out of contention to win the William Hill Premiership, but things may get worse with Martin in charge.

The fans are rightfully raising questions about the Gers’ recruitment strategy in the previous transfer window, with only Djeidi Gassama living up to expectations, leaving Thelwell to face the heat.

With volatility at an all-time high at Ibrox, it will be interesting to see how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
