‘Extraordinary’ word emerges from Rangers on Russell Martin sack latest

Rangers’ disastrous start to the season continued on Saturday with a humiliating defeat to Hearts.

Russell Martin is under massive pressure with his side yet to win a game in the Scottish Premiership, with the Jambos leaving Ibrox with a 2-0 victory.

Rangers fans were in uproar as they booed throughout the game and called for Martin’s sacking.

It is the Gers’ worst start to a season in 47 years, and patience at Ibrox is wearing incredibly thin with the manager.

Russell Martin’s reign is branded a ‘disaster’

Rangers are prepared to give Martin more time, despite the calamitous start to the season.

The Ibrox club currently sit in tenth spot in the Scottish Premiership table and have yet to register a win.

Writing in the Daily Mail, journalist John McGarry has called out Martin’s time in charge and called for the club to sack him, despite what has been said publicly already.

He said: “The long and the short of it is that his reign has been an unmitigated disaster. A short statement thanking him for his efforts the following morning seemed inevitable.”

He also criticised Rangers’ decision to seemingly keep Martin, saying: “Word that the club was standing by him — for now, at least — was nothing short of extraordinary.”

Martin himself doubled down and insisted he won’t resign, but it is difficult to see a way back from here.

Russell Martin’s awful start continues against Hearts

Rangers continued their woeful start to the season after a lacklustre 2-0 home defeat to Hearts on 13 September.

Martin’s tactics came into question as Rangers failed to find the back of the net for the second consecutive game.

There were ugly scenes in the stands, with fans clearly fed up with what they have seen on the pitch this season.

Martin must now come up with something to win back the support of fans and start producing results.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers have given the manager their support, so it’s now up to him to try to turn it around, starting against Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup.
