Simon Jordan can’t believe possible Russell Martin replacement at Rangers after new crisis talks

Russell Martin is public enemy number one among Rangers fans right now, and replacements are already being discussed.

Rangers are winless in the Scottish Premiership under Martin, who was loudly booed at Ibrox during a loss to Hearts, as fans now want him to be sacked.

Kevin Thelwell brought Martin in during the summer, and his appointment drew a negative reaction at the time, which has now been completely justified.

Rangers fans are desperate for a replacement for the underperforming manager, but Simon Jordan is already adamant that one candidate should not replace him.

Simon Jordan slams idea of Barry Ferguson return to Rangers

Martin replaced Barry Ferguson when he arrived, with the former Rangers captain serving as interim manager last season.

Some at the time believed that Ferguson should have gotten the job permanently, but the new Rangers owners went in a fresh direction with their appointment.

Ferguson did oversee some impressive results, as Rangers knocked Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce en route to the Europa League quarter-finals, but he departed at the end of the season and has been out of work since.

Ferguson’s record as Rangers interim manager

With Martin’s appointment a shocker, some fans have claimed that they would prefer Ferguson to return to Ibrox to replace him, but speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan slammed this as a nonsensical idea.

“Who do you replace him [Russell Martin] with, Barry Ferguson? Pack it in,” Jordan fumed.

“What, because he played for the club? Good luck going down that route; see how far it gets you. Would turn a hero into a zero overnight.”

Barry Ferguson is not the solution for Rangers

Ferguson is a Rangers legend, and he did have a positive impact in the Europa League last season, but it would be nonsensical to bring him back.

The team still suffered some awful results during his interim spell, and Rangers even lost five games in a row at Ibrox for the first time.

The club needs an experienced manager capable of handling the pressure of the crowd at Rangers, as Martin has failed to do, but Ferguson failing as a manager would tarnish his legacy.

Ferguson did not show that he was tactically capable of taking Rangers up a level, even if he was a better man-motivator than Martin, and the club needs fresh ideas from a more proven coach than either of the pair.
