‘Russell Martin to be sacked in days’ at Rangers with depression setting in
Rangers’ shocking start to the season continued following a 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Ibrox.
Russell Martin retains the backing of Andrew Cavenagh despite many fans already wanting him to be sacked as the club remains winless in the Scottish Premiership.
Martin must improve results quickly, with the Premier Sports Cup meeting against Hibernian on Saturday a crucial match in his Rangers tenure.
Lawrence Shankland’s double ensured that Martin must face even more scrutiny from supporters who have already had enough of his brand of football.

Russell Martin has lost the fans already
Andy Newport, speaking via the Daily Record’s Hotline Live on 14 September, has outlined that the relationship between Martin and the fans is at the point of no return.
He said: “In the eyes of the supporters, he’s toast, he’s done.
“When he came in, it was the most lukewarm of receptions he got when he was appointed, and the scepticism and the concerns the fans have had since then have only grown.”
Rangers’ 9-1 aggregate thrashing at the hands of Club Brugge means Ibrox won’t play host to Champions League football this season, either, despite spending heavily in the transfer window.
The loss to Hearts has increased pressure on Martin at a time when results are all that is needed to gain back some trust from the supporters.

Keith Jackson responded by saying, “The team’s in depression, Andy, it’s in depression.”
Newport added: “If Martin doesn’t get a result against Hibs, that’ll be the end for him.
Hibs sit third in the Scottish Premiership, and a loss at Ibrox for Rangers would see the Govan club hit a new low under Martin’s stewardship.
Rangers are 10th in the Scottish Premiership, and the future doesn’t look promising for Martin and his new-look squad.
Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell paying the price for poor recruitment
Thelwell has remained persistent in his faith towards Martin, yet questions should also be asked of his future following the club’s transfer window.
Oscar Cortes was sent out on loan despite signing permanently for a fee of £4.5m, whilst Rangers opted to splash out £10m on Youssef Chermiti, an unproven striker to say the least.
Spending that much money for what appears to be the second-choice striker feels foolish, especially when many other areas of the squad need addressing.
The deals to sign Bojan Miovski and Derek Cornelius could prove to be smart, as Miovski is a reliable goalscorer at this level, whilst Cornelius is the perfect profile for that left centre-back position.
However, with Oliver Antman being another example of a big-money signing that hasn’t improved the first team yet, it’s clear that Thelwell has not overseen a productive summer as sporting director.
