Russell Martin is finished at Rangers in new sack latest – ‘It’s game over for him’

Rangers are under growing pressure to part ways with Russell Martin after another historically bad start to the season.

Hearts beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox for the first time in 11 years in a toxic atmosphere, with fans chanting for the manager to be sacked, and it felt like an overdue ending after just 101 days in charge.

However, it has since emerged that Rangers are not planning to sack Martin at all, with the former Southampton boss set to be in charge against Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final.

The Rangers board is now facing criticism for delaying the inevitable, with it now abundantly clear that Martin has no future at all at Rangers.

Gary Keown calls for Russell Martin exit

Columnist Gary Keown is now the latest figure to rip into Martin, after Ally McCoist branded him a “fraud,” and other ex-players expressed their frustrations with him.

Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail, Keown claimed that the scenes at Ibrox on Saturday were the nail in the coffin for Martin, after fans roundly booed him and called for his dismissal.

“Martin’s assessments of why Rangers look like they have hardly seen a football before and appear to have even less of an idea of what they are supposed to be doing with it have worn thin,” Keown wrote.

Rangers have been woeful under Martin

“He’s toast. It’s game over for him. Put simply, no one survives afternoons like Saturday. If proof were needed that he needs to be relieved of his duties for anything to move forward.

“Expressions of what has to happen next don’t get any more explicit than that.”

Russell Martin is out of excuses at Rangers

Martin still refused to take accountability after the defeat to Hearts, in which Rangers were particularly woeful in the first half and had little attacking threat.

Rangers were hard done by on some refereeing decisions, but fans have barely thought about them since, with all the anger and blame placed at the manager’s feet.

Martin cannot use the excuse of having had limited time, given that his opposite number at Hearts, Derek McInnes, also joined his club in the summer, but they have won four out of five matches, compared to Rangers’ zero.

There is no excuse or justification for any of the manager’s decisions, and Martin’s feud with Nicolas Raskin has only made him appear even weaker, with his position now untenable.
