Rangers asked to reach out to Alex Ferguson as Russell Martin sack pressure reaches boiling point

Rangers should bring Alex Ferguson into the loop as they decide on Russell Martin’s future.

The former Southampton boss has lost the backing of the Gers’ supporters after losing to Hearts at Ibrox in the William Hill Premiership on 13 September.

Andrew Cavenagh has held crisis talks with Martin and has given the 39-year-old head coach his full backing.

With the Scottish manager under extreme pressure from the fanbase, the US consortium will certainly be looking for advice on what to do next.

Alex Ferguson can speak to Rangers on Russell Martin sack

Ferguson’s advice should be sought at the Gers as he’s been present in their recent fixtures, Peter Grant says.

The former Celtic midfielder doesn’t want to see Martin get sacked at Ibrox and has asked the Light Blues’ hierarchy to get in touch with the legendary former Manchester United boss.

With the ex-Saints boss struggling at the Glaswegian outfit, Ferguson may have some decent advice for the likes of Cavenagh on how to proceed.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 15 September, Grant said: “The only glimmer of hope you can maybe give Rangers fans, you’ve seen Sir Alex at games at times. Maybe they’re touching his ears at times.

“Maybe they’ve looked at Sir Alex, who’s been around it. And if I were them and I was sitting there, I would ask him that question, ‘What do you think about the things you’ve seen? Do you think we should stick by?’ Ask him that because you know Martin is struggling.”

Russell Martin replacement: Who can be hired at Ibrox?

Steven Gerrard seems like an obvious candidate to return to Ibrox, having already been linked with the job last summer.

The Liverpool icon ended the Gers’ 10-year wait for a league title before leaving for Aston Villa, although his career since then has been underwhelming.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Englishman make a comeback in G51 if and when Martin loses his job.

Jose Mourinho has also been suggested as a potential candidate at Rangers after leaving Fenerbahce recently.

The two-time Champions League winner’s arrival would arguably send shockwaves in Scottish football and could potentially help turn the toxic environment around at Ibrox immediately.

First, it remains to be seen how long Martin can survive at the Glaswegian outfit, but with the way things are going, his sacking feels inevitable.
