Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton butt heads after title claim as Rangers lose vs Hearts

Rangers find themselves nine points adrift of Hearts in the William Hill Premiership after losing on Saturday.

Derek McInnes’ team travelled to Ibrox on 13 September and secured the three points with a 2-0 victory against the Gers.

Supporters in G51 have now seen their team suffer their worst start to a league campaign after 47 years, as they’ve drawn four games and lost one.

The Ibrox hierarchy are backing Russell Martin for the time being, but he may have done lasting damage to the Glaswegian outfit’s prospects in the current campaign.

Rangers have uphill challenge in William Hill Premiership after loss vs Hearts

Kris Boyd feels the Gers are out of the title race after losing to Hearts.

Chris Sutton disagreed with the Scotsman, though, bringing up the fact that there are still 33 games left in the William Hill Premiership.

Boyd was having none of what the former Celtic star had to say, as there’s been nothing at Ibrox to suggest that the Light Blues can crawl back to the top of the table.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football on 14 September, the ex-Bears forward said: “For me, anyway, Rangers aren’t getting back into this league. So you’re then saying, are Rangers just playing for the Scottish Cup this year?”

Sutton responded with, “You can’t give up after five games, blimey. There are 33 more games,” to which Boyd replied, “But there’s no evidence it’s going to get better.”

Russell Martin will lose job with loss to Hibernian

Martin will be in the Ibrox dugout against Hibernian for the Gers’ Premier Sports Cup quarter-final fixture on 20 September.

Despite fans demanding the 39-year-old head coach’s sacking in large numbers, it looks like the Light Blues’ hierarchy want to give him more time to turn things around.

The supporters saw a similar script play out last season as the Glaswegian outfit held onto Phillipe Clement to possibly see how far he could take them in the cup competitions.

Rangers fans are fearing relegation under Martin, and Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises need to take control of the situation.

It probably won’t be long before the supporters turn on the American owners for their continued backing of the Scottish manager.

As things stand, it would possibly take a miracle for the Glaswegian outfit to get back into contention to be crowned Scottish champions.
