Ally McCoist now in agreement with Russell Martin over ‘unbelievably difficult’ Rangers point

Russell Martin has been vilified by Rangers fans and the wider media in recent weeks, but Ally McCoist now agrees with one point he made.

Martin has had a disastrous start at Rangers, failing to win any of his first five league games, and the atmosphere at Ibrox is now completely toxic.

Fans are adamant that Martin should be sacked, and director Kevin Thelwell should also arguably receive his marching orders after hiring him in the first place.

There was further outrage after the last defeat to Hearts, as Martin appeared to deflect the blame away from himself, with his post-match comments not going down well with Rangers fans.

Rangers atmosphere highlighted by Ally McCoist and Russell Martin

Speaking after Rangers fans at Ibrox heavily booed Martin, he claimed that the toxic environment at the club has made it tough for his team to succeed.

“Professionally, it’s difficult because we need the team to play in a certain way that requires certain things,” Martin stated of the atmosphere at Ibrox.

“And it’s really difficult when the atmosphere is how it is. It’s aimed towards me, not towards them [the players].

“I’m trying to say that to them. It should hopefully take a bit off them at some point. But it is what it is. We’ll keep working until I’m told not to. And we have to start winning.”

This did not go down well with fans, but speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist did point out that being in such a negative environment does make it harder to succeed as a Rangers player.

“One of my concerns with Rangers is when things are not going well, the supporters can make that place an unbelievably difficult place to play,” he claimed.

“I’m looking at the mettle and the makeup of the squad, and I’m not sure it can handle it, to be honest.”

Rangers need to sack Russell Martin to end toxicity

The toxic atmosphere at Rangers is self-inflicted by the club hierarchy, as it directly stems from results, performances and Martin’s attitude and tactics.

The takeover in the summer was meant to herald a new era of success, and Rangers fans were optimistic until Martin was appointed. Had a better candidate been hired, they would have been welcomed with open arms.

Had Martin gotten off to a winning start, he would have silenced all his critics, but he has done nothing but justify their negativity.

The atmosphere at Rangers has reached breaking point for Martin, and the only way to improve the toxic environment is to sack Martin and start improving on the pitch. While he is at the club, the players will struggle and have to deal with the extra pressure.
