Who Kris Boyd wants to see as next Rangers manager after Russell Martin sack

Russell Martin may be lucky to remain Rangers manager after losing to Hearts on Saturday.

Derek McInnes’ team travelled to Ibrox on 13 September in the William Hill Premiership, beating the hosts 2-0 with Lawrence Shankland’s brace.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises wanted Martin last summer, but they could potentially soon heed the supporters’ demands.

It’s clear to see that the Scottish manager is out of his depth at the Glaswegian outfit, and a replacement should come through the door.

Rangers should hire manager from Scottish league after Russell Martin failure

Kris Boyd feels there are plenty of talented coaches in Scotland to replace Martin at the Gers.

The ex-forward believes it may be better for the Light Blues “to look closer to home” if and when they decide to replace the Scottish manager at Ibrox.

Boyd thinks McInnes’ success in a short period with Hearts highlights the quality of managers that the Glaswegian outfit can find domestically.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football on 13 September, he said: “Sometimes it’s better just to look closer to home because we’ve got talented coaches in the Scottish league that can come in and do a job, and McInnes certainly did that today.”

Russell Martin has no way back after Ibrox singalong

Martin has no one but himself to blame at Ibrox after leading the Gers to their worst league start since 1978.

The former Southampton manager was heavily backed by the new owners in the previous transfer window, but there are no signs of improvement on the pitch.

If anything, the Light Blues have arguably gotten worse since the 39-year-old head coach first took charge, as he seems to be failing to learn from his mistakes.

There seems to be no way back for Martin now after home fans joined in with Hearts supporters in calling for his dismissal, with Boyd saying, “Topped off with the Hearts fans singing, ‘You’ll get sacked in the morning’ and Rangers fans joined in with it. That’s how bad it was. I don’t see any way back from this for Martin.”

Nicolas Raskin has garnered a lot of support from the Ibrox faithful in recent weeks after an apparent falling out with the Scottish manager, seeing him excluded from the squads against Celtic and the Jambos.

It feels like the ex-Saints boss has been digging his own grave at the Glaswegian outfit, and there’s only one outcome in G51 — his sacking.
