Tom English can’t get head around what Russell Martin’s now done at Rangers
Russell Martin has already had his fair share of challenges as Rangers manager.
Martin is under intense scrutiny despite only taking charge of the team in the summer.
He’s had to deal with Hamza Igamane’s disrespectful exit, fallout from Rangers’ 9-1 aggregate defeat to Brugge in the Champions League, and calls from Rangers fans demanding he be sacked.
However, new developments in an ongoing saga has left many people questioning what’s going on at Rangers.

Tom English confused over Nico Raskin’s omission from the Rangers squad
Nico Raskin was not included in Rangers’ squad against Hearts, prompting fans and pundits to once again question what’s going on behind the scenes.
Speaking on BBC Sport Sound ahead of the Hearts game on 13 September, English seemed stunned over the continuing saga.
“The way Martin is talking is that it’s player vs dressing room, that the dressing room doesn’t trust Raskin,” English said.
“If Raskin is back training with the first team, then why is he not in the squad today? I just can’t get my head around it.”
Raskin looked set for a Rangers exit throughout the transfer window, with Martin keen to offload the midfielder.
Raskin scored his first Belgium goal during the international break, and looked set to repair relations with Martin; however, reports that Martin and Raskin have had a bust-up seem more accurate every day.
Raskin was Rangers’ Player of the Year last season, and enjoyed a stellar campaign.
Stat | Raskin |

As the team continues to struggle under Martin, fans are crying out for Raskin’s quality in midfield.
Raskin now remains in exile at Ibrox, and only time will tell whether Martin will select him for the League Cup match against Hibs.

Russel Martin’s sacking could have implication on Kevin Thelwell’s future
Thelwell has not only backed Martin in the media, but he has also spent big in the transfer window.
The signing of Youssef Chermiti raised eyebrows amongst fans, with Thelwell pushing forward the move to sign a striker who scored zero goals in two years at Everton.
More recently, he has threatened to walk if Martin is sacked in the next few weeks.
The success of Martin and Chermiti, two people he has continuously defended and fought for, will greatly determine how successful of a sporting director Thelwell is at Rangers.
