Russell Martin could be sacked by Rangers within minutes, ‘he’s done for at Ibrox’

Rangers suffered a damaging 2-0 loss to Hearts at Ibrox, with Russell Martin facing further calls to be sacked.

Martin has been under intense scrutiny for weeks, and the defeat to Hearts spells even more trouble for his career at Rangers.

Lawrence Shankland’s double either side of half-time ensured that Rangers extended their winless run in the Scottish Premiership to five.

Rangers fans are furious with Martin, and his tenure at the club might be over before their next match.

Russell Martin on borrowed time at Rangers

Sportswriter Graham Spiers has spoken on X about how Martin can’t manage the team for any longer, with the club now sitting 10th in the league.

He said: “Russell Martin: done for at Rangers. Utterly cooked. Surely has minutes, hours, or days left as Rangers manager.”

Earlier on Saturday, club legend Ally McCoist criticised Martin’s management of the lIght Blues, stating that Rangers should never be in a situation where they find themselves near the relegation places.

This leaves Rangers winless in five matches, and they’re still yet to beat a Scottish team that is above League One.

Today was seen as a match where Rangers could reset with the transfer window being closed, yet the same issues resurfaced as the Light Blues were lethargic on the ball and weak off it.

Fans booed the team off at half-time, and very few supporters remained at Ibrox to give Martin a similar reception at the full-time whistle.

Russell Martin’s persistence to use Nasser Djiga a key mistake

Djiga has been a nervous wreck for Rangers, having been at fault for multiple goals already this season.

His defending was poor for Shankland’s first, failing to track his run and leaving himself unable to block the shot.

With Derek Cornelius now at the club, it would’ve made sense for Martin to use the left-footed centre-back to accommodate John Souttar; however, he kept the Burkina Faso defender in the starting lineup.

Cornelius is not only more experienced but has also just come off the back of scoring a brilliant goal for Canada in midweek.

Martin’s baffling decision to persist with Djiga is just one of many questionable choices he has made in his short Rangers career.
