Jermain Defoe reveals key part he played in Mikey Moore transfer at Rangers

Rangers beat several clubs to sign Mikey Moore on loan from Tottenham this summer.

Moore was of interest to a number of Championship sides, including West Brom, but he rejected his former youth coach, Ryan Mason, to move to Ibrox.

The teenager has started just one game for Rangers so far, but there is hope that he can make a big impact, as one of Tottenham’s best prospects in years.

Rangers and Tottenham have shared several players over the years, with some becoming successful, and Jermain Defoe was certainly one of the better ones.

Jermain Defoe makes Mikey Moore revelation

Defoe was a truly iconic Premier League striker at several clubs, with Tottenham his main team during his long career, but he spent a few years at the end at Rangers.

The English striker was a popular figure at Ibrox, and scored 32 goals overall in four years as he served as a backup to Alfredo Morelos.

The 42-year-old has delivered for Rangers again, as he has now revealed that he played a part in Moore’s move to Ibrox.

“Obviously, young Mikey Moore has joined the team for the season. I coached him for two years at Tottenham and spoke to him ahead of the move – he wanted to pick my brains about the club, and I said it would be an unbelievable opportunity,” he stated via the Daily Record.

“Rangers is more than a football club, it’s an amazing place to play, especially when things are going well.”

Mikey Moore can play key part for Rangers

Moore is one of the best talents in England, and signing him was a coup for Rangers. And he can help get them out of the mess they find themselves in.

The attacker can play across the front line, and could bring the creativity, speed and goal threat Rangers have lacked under Russell Martin, with just three goals in three league games.

Moore was unimpressive when he started against Celtic, but it will clearly take more time for a youngster to settle into a team which is struggling for form overall.

If Moore is a success at Ibrox, then Rangers will have Defoe to thank, as he convinced the attacker that Glasgow was the best place for his development.
