Celtic fans will ‘cheer up’ after new supercomputer prediction with Rangers

Rangers will go head-to-head with Celtic in the Europa League this season.

Russell Martin‘s side are already six points behind Brendan Rodgers‘ men in the Scottish Premiership after a torrid start to the campaign.

Celtic may have given Rangers a route back into the title race, given the chaos that is going on across Glasgow at the moment.

However, the Gers may have to settle for European bragging rights if they cannot catch the Hoops in the domestic arena, having both failed to reach the Champions League.

Rangers Europa League prediction made by supercomputer

Rangers are in the Europa League after they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by Club Brugge.

The Opta supercomputer has handed them a 56.4 per cent chance of getting out of the league phase, with a 0.3 per cent chance to win the competition.

Arch-rivals Celtic have a 70.7 per cent chance to reach the knockout phase, with a 1.8 per cent chance of lifting the trophy.

Opta analyst David Segar believes that Celtic supporters will take great pleasure from the prediction, saying: “It might cheer Celtic fans up that they have a better chance than rivals Rangers, though, who only win the Europa League 0.3% of the time, while the Bhoys have a 70.7% chance of making it past the league phase, compared to the Gers’ 56.4%.”

Rangers need to get one over on Celtic

The rivalry between the two dominant forces in Scotland has been pretty one-sided in the last few years.

The Hoops have won 13 of the last 14 titles, with the Gers ending that dominance in the 2020/21 campaign

It will be a long road for the Bears, but with the right investment from the majority owners, the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, they can get to the level that they need to be at.

Despite all the rumblings and uncertainty at Celtic, they are still in pole position to have a better season, and the Ibrox supporters have to be patient with their rebuild; it will not happen overnight.

They may eventually break the spell, but as the Opta predictions suggest, it may not be this season, but they need to get one over on their rivals soon.
