Rangers should’ve sacked Russell Martin already after bombshell Nicolas Raskin claim
Russell Martin is walking on a tight rope at Rangers amid his apparent fallout with Nicolas Raskin.
Many among the Gers’ supporters want to see the back of the Scottish manager after just three wins in his first 11 games in charge.
On top of the poor performances, Martin has also made some baffling decisions regarding Raskin, and a common ground must now be found after the midfielder’s exclusion from the squad to face Celtic on 31 August.
With the international break coming to a close, Kevin Thelwell is expected to hold conversations at Ibrox, and one of them should be on the former Southampton boss’ future in G51.

Russell Martin wanted Nicolas Raskin sold at Rangers
Martin wanted Raskin sold in the previous transfer window after excluding him from the Gers’ squad to face Celtic, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist is determined that there’s no doubt the Scottish manager wanted to get rid of the midfielder at Ibrox, which should’ve been a sackable offence.
Considering the 39-year-old head coach’s stance on the Belgium international, it’s clear that he doesn’t have the ability to bring the best out of the players at the Light Blues.
- The Gers are six points behind Celtic and Hearts.
- Martin has led the Light Blues to their worst start in the league in 42 years.
- The Bears are winless in their last four matches in all competitions.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 8 September, the journalist said: “He wanted rid of Raskin. You know that he wanted rid. There’s no doubt about it. You don’t treat a player like that. He was desperate to get rid. He wanted him out before that window shut, and it hasn’t happened.”
If Martin can’t find a way to arguably fit the Glaswegian outfit’s best player in his plans, then there’s no future for him in G51.
It feels baffling that the ex-Saints boss was willing to cash in on Raskin last summer despite the prospect of his own future being uncertain.

Hearts fixture should be make or break for Russell Martin
Martin could potentially be the most hated man at Ibrox if the Gers can’t improve their display against Hearts on 13 September.
The Scottish manager has overseen Rangers suffer their joint-worst defeat in Europe after losing 9-1 on aggregate to Club Brugge in the Champions League, which showed many fans he isn’t the right person to lead them in the new era under Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises.
While the Americans backed him in the previous transfer window and may want to give him time, a defeat against Hearts should be the end of Martin’s managerial career at Ibrox.
All eyes will be on the former Southampton head coach on the weekend.
