Nicolas Raskin ‘the best’ as Kris Boyd lays out path to Rangers return

Nicolas Raskin can’t take his place at Rangers for granted despite his undoubted quality.

The 24-year-old was left out of the Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox, leading to speculation around his future, but those fears have now subsided.

Raskin scored his first goal for Belgium against Kazakhstan on 7 September in the World Cup Qualifiers, which would certainly have come as a much-needed relief for the midfielder after his struggles in G51.

The Belgian star will now return to the Glaswegian outfit in high spirits, but that may need to translate at Auchenhowie for him to get back into the good graces of the management.

Rangers return expected if Nicolas Raskin shows dedication in training

Raskin could potentially need to eat humble pie at the Gers to get back into the team, Kris Boyd says.

Whatever the Belgium international’s issues with Russell Martin may be, he arguably needs to show dedication in training to once again be a part of the plans at Ibrox.

The former Scottish forward believes the Glaswegian outfit have one of the best midfielders on their books in Scotland, but there possibly needs to be a compromise in G51.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on 8 September, Boyd said: “The only way — Raskin is going to have to come back and, for me, eat humble pie, go into training and train properly every single day and get yourself back into the team. And if that’s the case, then Rangers have got a midfielder that’s as good as anything in Scotland, if not the best midfielder in Scotland.”

Kevin Thelwell can’t let Russell Martin exclude Nicolas Raskin at Ibrox

Raskin is expected to speak with Kevin Thelwell and Martin after returning from international break, and fans will hope they can find some sort of agreement.

The Gers will only be hurting themselves by continuing to exclude the midfielder from their squad, as his value will surely diminish.

It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say the ex-Standar Liege star is the most valuable asset on the Glaswegian outfit’s books currently.

Even if Rangers expect Raskin to leave in January, the sensible thing to do would be to continue relying on him to justify a significant price tag.

The Gers sold Hamza Igamane for a massive profit to LOSC Lille in the previous transfer window, and they can do the same with the Belgium international.

Supporters in G51 are already frustrated with Martin, and Rasking is someone they know the Light Blues can rely on.
